STAFF Director: Andrew Dalton. M.Ed. BSc Honors Drew is an Adapted Physical Education Teacher in Prince George's County, Maryland. He obtained his BSc from the University of Wales, and obtained his Masters in Adapted Physical Education from the State University of New York, BROCKPORT in 2005. Drew has had many years working with children who are blind and or visually impaired. He has previously worked at Perkins School for the Blind and has worked at a CAMP ABILITIES in NY, under the direction of the founder of ‘CAMP ABILITIES’ Dr. Lauren Lieberman. It was from these experiences that Drew strived to bring the same opportunities to children in the state of Maryland, and the reason why Camp Abilities at Lions Camp Merrick will open this coming summer. Associate Director: Andrea Noel. Andrea works for Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind (CLB) and is the assistant director of CLB's summer camp programs. Andrea is very experienced at not only working with children with visual impairments, but also at organizing and running a summer camp program. Camp Abilities at Lions Camp Merrick is privileged to have someone of Andrea's experience working with us. Assistant Director: Brian Kelly. BSc. Brian is an Adapted Physical Education Teacher in Prince George's County, Maryland. He obtained a BSc from St. Bonaventure University in 2007. Brain is an experienced and active APE teacher within Prince George's County. He coached one of our Special Olympics soccer teams this fall. He also holds a first degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and will be our self defense specialist at Camp Abilities this summer. We are privileged to have him be an assistant director at Camp Abilities at Lions Camp Merrick. Aquatic Director: Melaine Goettel. M.Ed. BSc. CAPE. Melanie is an Adapted Physical Education Teacher in Prince George's County, Maryland. She obtained a Masters degree in Adapted Physical Education from SUNY Cortland. Over the past three years, Melanie has been an active teacher and coach within the Prince George's County community. She coaches basketball and athletics for the Special Olympics and her athletes compete on a county and state level. Through her work as a grant writer several programs were created and implemented in the APE curriculum in Prince George's County, notably a grant to enable the creation of a fishing curriculum. Melanie is a qualified aquatics specialist and has trained several of our staff members. We are honored and privileged to have her run our aquatics program and Camp Abilities at Lions Camp Merrick. Specialist / Advisor: Brad Wiener, M.Ed., CAPE Brad is an Adapted Physical Education Teacher in Prince George's County, Maryland. He obtained his Masters degree in Adapted Physical Education from SUNY Cortland. Over the past four years, Brad has been a valued and extremely active member within the Prince George's County community. Brad has coached basketball and soccer teams that have reached and won medals at the State Special Olympic games. He coordinates the county's Adapted Sports program after school with Melanie Goettel, and has done so for the past two years. His expertise and knowledge, along with enthusiasm and energy, are vital to Camp Abilities at Lions Camp Merrick, and we are privileged to have Brad as one of our specialists and consultants. |
